Job title: Editorial Rights Advisor
Location: Berlin/ London

About the role:
Springer Nature is recruiting an Editorial Rights Advisor (m/f/d) to provide expert advice on rights acquisition for all content acrossSpringer Nature and ensure that the rights agreements reflect business and legal needs. To support the Team Manager in developing guidelines and processes and providing key support in cross-department projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert advice to queries related to rights agreements for content, and for agreed areas of the business on the rights to use text, images, permissions for third party content, ensuring queries are responded to within target turnaround times, are answered adequatelyand escalated appropriately when a business/legal decision is required.
  • Identify, record and monitor recurring issues and query patterns and work with the Team Manager to provide solutions to minimisefurther queries, including the escalation to ERD, Legal and the business to ensure resolution. Proactively check and update guidanceinformation provided to editorial/publishing staff.
  • Work with the Team Manager to ensure that rights agreements reflect business and legal needs and that special requirements aretracked and managed appropriately, provide active quality control checks to ensure basic compliance criteria have been met andamendments are in line with our business policies. Assist in responding promptly to requests for evidence that the business area hassecured appropriate content rights.
  • Work closely with the Team Manager to oversee the move of contracting systems responsibilities to the team ensuring that the correctcontracts are used, updated as scheduled and correct policy is followed. Assist in the implementation of change requests, includingupdates to supporting documentation.
  • Managing contractors to ensure the logging and tracking of third-party rights information in relation to previously published and newlypublished titles, working with the Team Manager to prioritise making the business aware of any restrictions and potential problems withnew editions/versions/licensed editions, managing business cases for re-clearance of expired licences.
  • Support the Team Manager to work with the business to implement effective workflows and strategies to streamline licensing processes.Process internal file requests via internal publishing systems, ensuring that internal rights approvals are in place before the release offiles.
  • Organise rights training sessions for staff and participate, working towards being able to lead in delivery of training sessions as required.
  • Draft and update rights guidelines and process documents in a timely manner to reflect any changes in policy. Liaise with Team Managers and stakeholders to ensure that guidelines and workflows are still relevant and update accordingly. Regularly raise recurringrights issues to discuss & implement solutions.
  • Assist with department projects, working with the Editorial Rights team to plan and implement projects for workflow and policy changes.Completing tasks on time, keeping assigned project logs updated to ensure the overall success of deliverables.

Experience, Skills & Qualifications:

  • Administering/working with legal documentation, including contract editing and advising on copyright
  • Working in a fast-paced environment with the ability to work to a specified list of priorities with speed and accuracy
  • Working with query/issue tracker systems, such as Freshdesk, Trello, smartsheet etc
  • Ability to quickly learn internal systems related to job function
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to assimilate often complex information and relay it to others in a clearand accessible manner
  • Strong organisational skills to deal with multiple issues at one time, working with tight deadlines
  • Team player, able to work with Springer Nature in-house staff and nurture relationships
  • Educated to degree level (preferably in law)
  • Fluent in German and English, both oral and written
